    May 2026: Exhibition catalog published

Following the great success of the exhibition “Flight of the Horses” with several hundred visitors per day on the occasion of the Trakehner Stallion Market 2025 at the Holstenhalle in Neumünster, the exhibition catalog has now been published in hardcover A4 format.

The core themes address the evacuation of Trakehnen Stud and the flight of the horses from East Prussia as well as the new beginning
of Trakehner breeding in the West. The publisher is the Trakehner Verband, which organized a hippologically expanded presentation for the Stallion Market 2025 based on the exhibition of the same name at the Kulturzentrum Ostpreußen in Ellingen.
The catalog, compiled by former Trakehner breeding director Lars Gehrmann together with association staff member Julia Hennies, impressively and expertly documents the subject on 120 pages with nearly 150 archive photos, including various original documents, drawings, and tables. This book also features several photos that could not be shown in the exhibition at the time, primarily for technical reasons.

The book is published by Sandra Asmussen-Verlag in Gelting, costs €29.90, and can be ordered through the publisher, the Trakehner Verband in Neumünster, or through bookstores. To the book in the Trakehner Shop>>>

    Flight of the Horses

As part of the Trakehner Stallion Market, a special exhibition took place from November 27 to 30, 2025, in the foyer of the Holstenhalle, impressively dedicated to the historical theme “Flight of the Horses.” The basis for this project was an exhibition held this year under the same title at the Kulturzentrum Ostpreußen in Ellingen Castle near Weißenburg in Bavaria. The exhibition in Neumünster was supplemented with historical exhibits from the headquarters of the Trakehner Verband, the archive of Erhard Schulte, and from the Ostpreußisches Landesmuseum in Lüneburg, which also supported this project.

Supporters also include the Trakehner Förderverein (TSF), the Trakehner Turniersport-Gemeinschaft (TTG), the Trakehnen Verein and the Stiftung Trakehner Pferde, as well as several breeders and members of the Trakehner Verband, to whom special thanks are due.

    Information about the exhibition

In addition to historical information, original documents, photos, and eyewitness interviews provide insights into the dramatic events of late 1944 and early 1945 in East Prussia. This covers not only the evacuation of Trakehnen Stud on October 17, 1944, but also the flight of the farmers and breeders of the East Prussian Warmblood horse.
