Sunday

Sunday of Seven Champions

The final day of the Trakehner Federal Tournament was primarily dedicated to the dressage championships.

The numerous spectators witnessed outstanding young dressage horses competing in various classes. Among the seven-year-olds, the premium stallion TSF GASPARD by His Moment-Imperio won under the saddle of Cecilie Hedegaard (DK). The breeder is Dr. Angelica Lauritzen (DK), and the owner is Nicole Derlin—the stallion achieved the best result in his age group the previous day in the Advanced Level dressage test with snaffle for young horses. Additionally, he received the TSF distinction from the hands of Dr. Martin Mehrtens, Chairman of the Trakehner Support Association, as a festive auction overture yesterday evening. Gaspard is one of eight German horses qualified for the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden in the second week of August.

The title for six-year-old Trakehner dressage horses went to Austria, to Trakehner Stud Murtal, which traveled from Styria with five horses and was highly successful in Münster: The mare HARFENSPIEL by Ivanhoe-Cadeau, bred at the stud, won the Medium Level dressage horse test under the saddle of Ulrike Prunthaller.

The former reserve licensing champion ROCKINGHAM by Saint Cyr-Kaiser Wilhelm won the final test of the five-year-old dressage horse championship after already winning yesterday’s qualifying test. Bred by Matthias Kley and celebrated at the licensing, where his owners Silke Buck and Friedrich Blomeyer purchased the young stallion, Rockingham is currently qualified for the Bundeschampionate in early September in Warendorf. The stallion was trained and presented by Moritz Gehrmann.

The Equitop Myoplast Riding Horse Championships, traditionally a crowd favorite, were judged in four divisions.

The riding horse championship for four-year-old mares and geldings went to Schleswig-Holstein: Luisa Erichsen presented the gelding HONNERY by Integer-Imperio. The breeder is Jürgen Altmiks from the island of Sylt, and the owners are Caroline Thurner and Moritz Gehrmann. Honnery and the rider prevailed in the championship test against four competitors. In the four-year-old stallion division, the licensed HAMILTON SELSOE by Ivanhoe-Sixtus, bred by Stuteri Selsoe, DK, won. The stallion’s owner, Tenna Dyrberg Hojgaard, DK, skillfully presented her champion herself and conquered the winner’s sash with charm and quality of movement. The reserve title also went to a licensed stallion bred in Denmark: ZAVIER by Millennium-Okavango, bred by ZG Bo, Helle and Ebbe Joergensen and owned by Jurado Dressage GmbH. Severo Jurado Lopez also presented his stallion himself. Third place in the final test was shared by the premium stallions KENSINGTON PALACE and TIMES SQUARE.

TAORMINA by Imperio-Herzruf is the new three-year-old Equitop Myoplast Trakehner Riding Horse Championess, bred and owned by Hessische Hausstiftung Gestüt Panker. The multiple Grand Prix winner Imperio was bred here with the former champion mare Tanzmusik by Herzruf, whose mare family has been resident at the traditional stud in East Holstein for almost 80 years. This year, the stud accomplished the feat of qualifying both the championess Taormina and the second-placed mare TANZMARIE for the final, both sensitively presented by their trainer Sarah König.

Premium stallion KANTÉ by Rheinglanz-His Moment, the three-year-old Equitop Myoplast Trakehner Riding Horse Champion of stallions, was bred by Jill Mieleszko-Vekens, who bred her two first Trakehner Federal Tournament auction foals with sire Rheinglanz and dam Kiss me now for this champion. The international Dutch station Reesink Stallions purchased the young stallion at the Trakehner Stallion Market 2024. He is currently owned by the ownership group Reesink Stallions and Stoeterij Turfhorst, who had the stallion skillfully presented by Phoebe Peters (GBR).

The special prize for sensitive and horse-friendly riding was awarded this year by the organizers and judges to Luisa Erichsen.

The four-day Trakehner Federal Tournament, hosted for the sixth time by the Westphalian Equestrian Center in Münster-Handorf, was also a success for the organizers in 2025. More than 40 tests in all three disciplines, a dozen newly crowned champions, and a magnificent foal auction on Saturday evening were made possible only thanks to the main office of the Trakehner Association, the team from the Equestrian Center, and an army of volunteers who once again surpassed themselves and set off for home with the certainty: Only the Trakehners can do something like this.

Famosa is Jumping Horse Championess Again

(Münster-Handorf) On the competition grounds of the Westphalian Equestrian Center in Münster-Handorf, another championship was held this morning. In the Medium Level jumping horse test, the judges determined this year’s champion of six- and seven-year-old jumping horses. With the dream score of 9.0, last year’s winner Famosa by Lebenstraum-Sixtus once again placed at the top of the field. The now seven-year-old mare comes from the successful breeding program of Siegfried Lask and is owned by Nicole Derlin. In the saddle this year was Andreas Ostholt, a Westphalian local and internationally successful eventing rider; last year Sascha Klemm had successfully presented the elegant gray mare to championship victory. Breeder Siegfried Lask is an outstanding idealist and horseman among special Trakehner breeders. For more than five decades, Lask, who celebrated his 83rd birthday a few days ago, has been breeding with his Trakehner mare family, usually with one or two broodmares and always unwavering in his belief in the Trakehner jumping horse. The continued success with the beautiful Famosa, who was a Trakehner auction foal seven years ago, proves him right. The proud breeder was on site with his daughter and granddaughter and was able to experience unforgettable moments together with the dedicated owner of the mare, Nicole Derlin. Both jumping horse championships were presented by the Dr. Ingo Breymann Foundation, and to the delight of the organizers, the sponsor was personally on site to offer congratulations.

The riding horse tests for four-year-old Trakehners impressed with outstanding quality. Among the stallions, all starters achieved scores of 8.0 and better, with victory going to the premium stallion Kensington Palace by Schwarzgold with the day’s highest score. Also qualified for the Equitop Myoplast Riding Horse Championship are the licensed stallions Times Square by Integer, Zavier by Millennium, and Hamilton Selsoe by Ivanhoe. In the mares and geldings division, Bannon by Karim Doré won the riding horse test with a score of 8.4; also qualified for the championship are Praise Her by Goldschmidt, Kavos by Imperio, Luxus by Freiherr von Stein, and Honnery by Integer.

In the Elementary Level dressage horse test, the premium stallion Rockingham by Saint Cyr-Kaiser Wilhelm (Br.: Matthias Kley, O.: Silke Buck and Friedrich Blomeyer) once again confirmed his class, which earlier in the season already earned him qualification for the Bundeschampionate for five-year-old dressage horses. Under the saddle of Moritz Gehrmann, the stallion achieved an overall score of 8.54. In second place, the two-time Trakehner Riding Horse Champion TOP SECRET by Kwahu and Alina Wernsmann beamed with an overall score of 8.16. The championship presented by Gestüt Wiesenhof will take place tomorrow at 8:00 AM on the dressage arena at the Westphalian Equestrian Center in Münster-Handorf.

The Advanced Level* dressage test with snaffle, with international participants from Austria and Denmark, was won by Lydia Camp-Riebau with Silverstone by Hopkins, bred by her father August Camp, with over 72 percent, closely followed by the World Championship-qualified stallion Gaspard by His Moment under Cecilie Hedegaard (DK) and the four-time Trakehner championess Salvana’s Helene by Helium, who is successfully competing in her first Advanced Level season under Jakob Schen.

Trakehner Federal Tournament 2025: Belun is Champion of Five-Year-Old Jumping Horses

In summery weather, the Trakehners are already celebrating another champion in Münster-Handorf: The licensed Belun by Nathan de Tour AA-Sarafan placed at the top of the field in the Elementary Level jumping horse test with the dream score of 9.0, securing the title of jumping horse champion in his age class. The wiry brown premium stallion was bred by Simone and Frank Schönbeck, Neunkirchen, and is owned by Mrs. Renate Weber, Hamburg. He was already the best jumping stallion at his licensing and carries proven performance bloodlines through both his Advanced Level-successful Anglo-Arabian sire and through his dam’s sire Sarafan. Belun was brilliantly presented by the young Polish rider Oliwia Kulej.

The first advanced dressage tests of the Trakehner Federal Tournament 2025 were strong and internationally competitive. Victory in the Advanced Level* dressage with double bridle went to the elegant Ivanhoe daughter HIMMELSROSE, bred and owned by Gestüt Murtal, Styria (A), presented by Ulrike Prunthaller and scored at over 69 percent. Victory in the Advanced Level Prix St. Georges dressage test also went to Gestüt Murtal and a horse bred there: With the Hibiskus daughter HAGEBUTTE, Ulrike Prunthaller achieved over 72 percent and thus a clear lead over the other placings.

The Novice Level combined test for young horses was won by the five-year-old mare HERBSTFEE by Hirtentanz under Friederike Plagmann. The mare, bred and owned by the Karp family, Ochtrup, was championess of four-year-old eventing horses last year and showed herself confident and excellently developed.

The four-legged youngsters presented themselves under saddle for the first time in the riding horse test. In the mares and geldings division, there was a double success for the traditional Gestüt Panker with the mares TANZMARIE by Rheinglanz and TAORMINA by Imperio, both finely presented by Sarah König and taking the top places in their division with scores of 8.2 and 8.0. Among the three-year-old stallions, KANTÉ by Rheinglanz, awarded premium status in Neumünster in 2024, won for the Dutch Reesink Stables under the saddle of Phoebe Peters (GBR) with a score of 8.4. In second place followed NACHTTEMPEL by Tempelhof with Annabell Kiel, owned by the Evers family. The four highest-scoring horses in both divisions will compete again on Sunday in the Equitop Myoplast Trakehner Riding Horse Championship.

A highlight of the second day of competition was the evening’s first presentation of the auction foals, which stormed the hearts of the numerous spectators. Movement opulence of a special kind, attractive pedigrees with valuable, sometimes unique performance genetics, Trakehner nobility, and the charm of the youngest came irresistibly to the fore alongside the wonderful broodmares and should awaken desires at the open-air auction on Saturday evening, July 19 at 7:30 PM, both live on site and online. The foals will appear once more tomorrow at noon at 12:30 PM in a short matinee before Westphalia’s star auctioneer Thomas Münch takes action in the evening and auctions the youngsters: The Trakehner foal auction is cult and party that one simply must experience.

Trakehner Federal Tournament: The 2025 Trakehner Eventing Champions, presented by Tedesio, have been determined!

On Thursday morning, the International Trakehner Federal Tournament 2025 began with a total of six eventing tests on the cross-country course of the Westphalian Riding and Driving School.

The married couple Anna and Elmar Flötotto were able to celebrate the first of three eventing champions of this year’s tournament: Their four-year-old licensed stallion ATAMAN by Pagur ox-Troupier (Br.: Ruger Westphal) received the top score of 8.8 in the Novice Level eventing horse test under the saddle of Andreas Ostholt and was thus able to place at the top of the field with ease. Previously, he had also placed highly in the suitability test with cross-country and was thus able to earn points for the new performance test system. Ataman was licensed at the Stallion Market in Neumünster in 2023 and was awarded as the best part-bred stallion with his special blood percentage of over 75 percent. Ataman’s sire Pagur ox is performance-tested through racing, and dam’s sire Troupier x brings in the best performance genetics as an Olympic participant. The champion already presents a top foal from his first foal crop in the collection of the Federal Tournament foal auction—a special offering on Saturday evening, July 19 at 7:30 PM.

The title of five-year-old Trakehner eventing champion was also won by a licensed stallion: BERLIOZ by Zauberdeyk-Heuberger, bred by Monika Mittermayer, is owned by the Principal and State Stud Marbach and was skillfully presented in the Elementary Level** eventing horse test, simultaneously a qualification for the Bundeschampionate, by Sven Lux. For the confident round characterized by rhythm and rideability, the judges awarded a score of 9.4 and thus victory in the strongly contested test. Berlioz’s sire Zauberdeyk is successful internationally in eventing and nationally in dressage tests up to Advanced Level***, and dam’s sire Heuberger was highly successful internationally up to Grand Prix under Anabel Balkenhol.

In the last test of the Federal Tournament opening day, the champion of six-year-old eventing horses was determined in the Elementary Level eventing horse test, also a qualification for the Bundeschampionate. Places one through three went to Trakehner horses, and the hero of the day was Andreas Brandt, whose training facility is located near Wismar. With the seven-year-old Sonnenglück by Adorator-Opernball (Br. O.: Annett Kiesow-Breymann), who performed confidently and light-footedly, he won (score 9.3), and with the six-year-old DOBAWEN by Hirtentanz-Herzberg, he took second place (score 9.0). Andreas Ostholt rode his six-year-old LIBELAS by Vikis-Araratas, bred in Lithuania and an auction riding horse at the Trakehner Stallion Market 2023, to third place (score 8.8). As the best six-year-old, the impressive black Dobawen (Br.: Friedel Krafft, O.: BG Krafft and Saggau), who impressed with powerful canter and very good jumping, became the new Trakehner eventing champion of his age class. He also has competitive sport in his blood: sire Hirtentanz was a multiple winner in advanced jumping, and dam’s sire Herzberg was successful in advanced tests in the USA.

On Friday morning, the Trakehner Federal Tournament continues on the grounds of the Westphalian Equestrian Center with tests from Novice to Advanced Level**. An early evening highlight: At 6:45 PM, the 21 elite auction foals will present themselves to the audience for the first time. This will be followed from 7:30 PM by an entertaining evening program with Jump Run, tug-of-war, and social gathering.
