Stallion Performance Test

Further information

From the beginning of 2025, the stallion performance test will be converted into a multi-level points system. The revision of the HLP concept adopted by the breeding associations responsible for riding horses provides for established as well as new routes for provisional and final entry in the Stallion Book I. The basis of the new concept is the fundamental rule already adopted by the Trakehner Verband in 2021 at the General Assembly, according to which licensed stallions may be entered in the Stallion Book I on a temporary basis until completion of their third year of life without an aptitude test. This principle has now been generally incorporated into the HLP regulations and the Breeding Association Regulations (ZVO).

In future, depending on the type of test and on defined performance records in competition sport, stallions will be able to collect points for entry in the Stallion Book I. The 50-day test and the aptitude test will remain as established test formats; after a transitional period, the sport tests will be discontinued and replaced by so-called HLP scoring tests, which will take place as part of selected state and association championships. The importance of the qualification and placing regulations for the Bundeschampionat and the Young Horse World Championships will remain unaffected by the changes, even under the new HLP points system. However, in future there will be more extensive opportunities to provide performance records through competition sport; for example, 5- and 6-year-old stallions will already have the opportunity to collect points for entry in the Stallion Book I through corresponding successes.
