Genomic breeding value Size
Further information
Members of the Trakehner Verband can arrange for a genetic analysis of the size inheritance of their breeding horses. This is an interesting support for determining the appropriate mating decision. In the future, it will be possible to determine the genomic breeding value for size on the basis of a hair sample.
The influence of genetics on the expression of body size in horses has long been known and scientifically proven. Research has now shown that a few genes can already provide reliable information about the tendency of later phenotypic size expression. The IAFH (International Association of Future Horse Breeding GmbH & Co. KG), which was founded in 2016 on the initiative of several horse breeding associations, is now active in many areas of equine research and has developed the genetic breeding value for size (gZW size) as a tool for optimized breeding of this important trait.
The application for the determination of the genomic breeding value size is made via the glass studbook and there under the heading Genomic Services.
